Media release from the Premiers office :

NEW FIXED CAMERA SITES ANNOUNCED

Premier Anna Bligh and Police Minister Neil Roberts have today announced the locations for the six new fixed speed cameras sites to be established in Queensland.

Ms Bligh said camera sites would be established on Nicklin Way at Warana, the Sunshine Coast Motorway at Mooloolaba, the Gold Coast Highway at Labrador and Broadbeach and the Warrego Highway at Rosewood and Muirlea.

The Premier said the sites, which were selected using speed related and non intersection crash data from Queensland Transport's crash database, will be operational by July.

"Too many lives are being lost on our roads because some motorists are choosing to put their lives, and the lives of others, in peril by speeding," Ms Bligh said.

"Already this year 138 people have lost their lives on Queensland's road. That's 24 more than at the same time last year.

"I am determined to take whatever action we can to reduce this carnage.

"That's why my government will add these six new sites to the three already established on Main Street, Kangaroo Point, the M1 at Tarragindi and the Bruce Highway at Burpengary."

Ms Bligh said the six new fixed speed camera locations were part of a major State Government initiative announced in November aimed at enhancing safety on our roads.

Included in the package were 106 new traffic branch officers - the first 53 of which will hit the streets within weeks - 30 additional hand held laser speed detection devices, 16 mobile radar speed detection devices, 12 micro-digicam speed detectors, eight additional Q-Cars and 12 additional police motorcycles for traffic enforcement.

Lol, all that money just spent on one thing. SPEED enforcement. On the last sentence of that article on the first post. The only thing that the "package" will include is things to enforce speed, but nothing else, like drink driving, drug driving etc.
But they will solely concentrate on speed enforcement because thats where the easy money is being made.
Our governments are secret thief's and are very incompetent.

Yes, the flawed mantra that "speed causes every accident" is alive and kicking in Queensland. And then they use that excuse thet speed kills to buy more liberty infringing cameras and speed check doodads and pay for more traffic cops. Seems to be a vicious circle.

The Brisbane top traffic cop was lamenting today they cant book motorbikes on their gatso camera vans because they have no front plates. The gatso vans here shoot you front on, so you have no warning.

And of course speed is blamed for every motorcycle death. The 'authorities" sure seem to have simplistic views and their answer to everything motorist related is to penalise, tax, penalise.
The drivers here in Brisbane are constantly tapping their brakes in fear of the ever increasing greed cameras.
Where will it all end ?Confused

The good news here is the camera can not put yourself on the opposite side of the road because they can not judge the speed of traffic going the other - they have a flash because you were on the side opposite of the road and there was no flash - you're cute no fine.
